Je studentenleven is een tijd vol nieuwe ervaringen, ‘eerste keren’, nieuwe vrienden en vele keuzes. De eerste heb je al gemaakt, je komt naar Leiden. Welkom in de mooiste stad van Nederland! Leiden heeft veel te bieden voor studenten. Naast de oudste universiteit van Nederland en de vele leuke terrasjes aan de grachten, kan je lid worden van een van de vele studentenverenigingen in de stad.
Ik ben Maarten, 20 jaar oud en tweedejaars geneeskundestudent in Leiden. Bijna twee jaar geleden kwam ik als Brabantse scholier voor het eerst in Leiden. Tijdens de EL-CID was mijn keuze snel gemaakt: door de borrels in de zon op het dakterras, de grote feesten in de Zaal van Sociëteit, de vele gezellige studentenhuizen en de goede verhalen werd ik heel enthousiast over Minerva en heb ik me ingeschreven. In mijn eerste jaar werden al mijn verwachtingen waargemaakt. Van het Sempre-gala en Sine Regno tot de skireis in Alpe d’Huez met 1000 Leden en het grote Lustrum in de zomer: alles heeft zijn charme en er is heel veel mogelijk!
Het leven binnen Minerva lijkt een beetje op een kleine samenleving. Er lopen heel veel verschillende mensen rond en er is voor iedereen een plek. Tijdens het vormen van een Jaarclub – ook wel ‘kernen’ genoemd – zoeken mensen met dezelfde interesses elkaar op. Met de vriendschappen die je hier sluit en de eindeloze ruimte en mogelijkheden krijg je binnen de Vereniging alle kans om je te ontplooien. Zo kan je een nieuwe sport ontdekken en helpen bij het organiseren van grote evenementen.
Door actief te zijn in commissies en subverenigingen leer je mensen uit verschillende hoeken kennen. Ik zit dit jaar in twee commissies bij “de Tent” (de sociëteit). Ik ben redactielid van de Correl, het verenigingsblad dat vier keer per jaar uitkomt. Samen schrijven we over alles wat er in en rondom de Vereniging gebeurt en hebben we interviews met Leden, reünisten en bekende Nederlanders. Zo zorgen we ook tijdens quarantaine voor een beetje Tent op je deurmat!
Daarnaast zit ik het Comité du Salut Public, ook wel CSP. Met deze groep organiseren we Tentfeesten, zoals de Halloweenparty, het Kerstfeest en een groot Intercorporaal feest. Een grote groep ‘promo-sjaarzen’ helpt ons bij de promotie en opbouw van de feesten en zij tappen op de avond zelf. Samen zorgen we elke keer voor een avond die je niet snel zult vergeten!
Welke keuze je ook maakt, je studentenleven wordt een spannende en memorabele tijd. Geniet nog even van de tijd bij je ouders, wie weet tot volgend jaar in de Zaal!
